Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R. Mutharasan refuted claims that his party compromised on seat demands in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections due to pressure from ally DMK. Asserting the alliance’s strength based on ideological unity, Mutharasan emphasized that the CPI remains firm in negotiations without yielding to external influences.
Addressing concerns of discord within the DMK-led alliance, Mutharasan clarified that the CPI stands resilient in seat-sharing talks, highlighting its independent political stance. He stressed the enduring nature of the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu, attributing its longevity to shared ideological principles rather than short-term electoral gains.
Emphasizing the alliance’s focus on countering ideological threats over seat allocations, Mutharasan underscored the importance of safeguarding secular values as a collective goal. He warned against the rising influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Tamil Nadu and criticized the BJP-led Union government for alleged discriminatory practices that undermine federalism.
Expressing confidence in the DMK-led alliance’s electoral prospects, Mutharasan anticipated strong performance in Coimbatore’s ten Assembly constituencies. He highlighted grassroots support for the coalition, projecting success for alliance candidates in the upcoming elections.
