Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary M. Veerapandian emphasized the importance of safeguarding women and children, urging the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government to take a strong stance against crimes targeting them. Veerapandian stressed the need for swift and resolute action against sexual offenses, emphasizing the shared responsibility of the government, police, and intelligence agencies in preventing such incidents.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the newly elected government in fulfilling its commitments but underscored that ensuring law and order, especially concerning crimes affecting public safety, should be an immediate priority. Veerapandian also criticized the Union government’s inaction regarding Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu project, warning of potential implications on federal relations and water scarcity in Tamil Nadu.
Veerapandian commended the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to offer government jobs to families who lost members in the Karur stampede last year, describing it as a compassionate gesture that the CPI supports. Additionally, he announced the CPI’s upcoming nationwide padayatra from August 6 to August 15, focusing on critical socio-economic and political issues while strengthening public engagement.
