The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) welcomed around 2,000 special guests at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 game between South Africa and the UAE. Among them were about 1,000 school students from different institutions in the capital, providing them with a firsthand experience of an international cricket match.
DDCA’s aim with this initiative is to promote sports participation, inspire young individuals, and strengthen cricket’s bond with the upcoming generation from various societal backgrounds. DDCA President Rohan Jaitley expressed delight in witnessing numerous young students enjoying their first-ever international cricket match, emphasizing the lasting impact such experiences can have on them.
In a gesture of recognition and gratitude, 1,000 Delhi Police personnel and their families were also invited to the match. This gesture acknowledges and appreciates the crucial role played by the Delhi Police in ensuring the smooth conduct of major cricket events in the city. Their dedication and prompt support are essential for upholding safety and order during match days.
Acknowledging the indispensable role of the police personnel in match operations, Jaitley highlighted their commitment, discipline, and vigilance that contribute to a secure environment for players and spectators. He also emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices and support provided by the families of these personnel behind the scenes.
DDCA Vice President Shikha Kumar underscored cricket’s ability to bring communities together, noting how the sport creates shared spaces that transcend generational and professional boundaries.
