Delhi BJP has alleged that a division has arisen within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a significant number of legislators have distanced themselves from supporting Leader of the Opposition Atishi following her alleged disrespectful comments on Sikh Gurus. According to Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, 21 out of AAP’s 22 MLAs did not participate in a protest organized in support of Atishi, indicating a lack of solidarity.
Kapoor suggested that the absence of almost all AAP MLAs from a protest concerning the Leader of Opposition without the approval of National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal hints at internal discord within the party. He further implied that this rift within AAP may be instigated by Kejriwal himself, especially considering the issue’s sensitivity related to Sikhs and Punjab.
The BJP representative highlighted that despite AAP’s announcement of a protest near the BJP office in solidarity with Atishi, only about 100 party workers showed up for the demonstration. Additionally, Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva affirmed the authenticity of a video shared by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, which allegedly captures Atishi’s disrespectful remarks in the Assembly.
The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly has initiated an investigation into the video, as confirmed by Sachdeva, who expressed confidence that the truth will be revealed once the report is released. The widening political gap between Kejriwal and Atishi appears evident amidst these developments.
