Delhi Capitals (DC), three-time runners-up in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), will reveal their new captain for the upcoming season on Sunday evening. The team was previously led by Meg Lanning, a successful Australian captain, but failed to secure the WPL title in 2023, 2024, and 2025. With Lanning now part of UP Warriorz (UPW) after the recent mega auction in New Delhi, DC is in search of a new leader.
Jemimah Rodrigues from India and Laura Wolvaardt, the captain of South Africa, are the top contenders for the captaincy role at DC. Jemimah served as the team’s vice-captain for three seasons, while Laura brings significant international leadership experience from leading the Proteas. The final decision on the captaincy is eagerly anticipated.
The announcement of the new captain will be broadcast live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Network channels at 6pm on Sunday, just before India’s T20I against Sri Lanka at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. DC is leaning towards appointing an Indian captain, as indicated by co-owner Parth Jindal during the mega auction.
Delhi Capitals will kick off their 2026 WPL campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians on January 10 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This season marks the first time the WPL will be held in the January-February period, with the final scheduled at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on February 5.
