With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed optimism about the prospect of a government symbolized by the Lotus coming to power in the state. Gupta highlighted the determination of Bengal residents for change after enduring years of fear and intimidation in politics.
She criticized the current state administration, citing concerns about women’s safety and alleging a prevailing atmosphere of fear in West Bengal. Gupta also pointed out widespread corruption in the state, particularly through practices like “cut money,” affecting various aspects of people’s lives.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar assured that the Election Commission is committed to ensuring free and fair elections in West Bengal. The state is gearing up for a two-phase Assembly election covering all 294 constituencies, a departure from the multi-phase polling pattern seen in previous years.
