Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has suggested merging Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital into a unified “super medical hub” inspired by AIIMS. This initiative aims to enhance bed availability, simplify testing and referrals, and reduce patient waiting times for improved healthcare services.
CM Gupta emphasized a comprehensive vision for public healthcare in Delhi, envisioning the integration of major medical institutions like GTB Hospital, DSCI, and RGSSH into a self-sufficient entity akin to AIIMS. This transformation is expected to offer advanced medical facilities to millions of patients in Delhi and nearby areas, ensuring better treatment quality and streamlined services.
The proposed integration seeks to address the uneven patient distribution among hospitals in Delhi. For example, RGSSH, with a capacity of 650 beds, currently utilizes only around 250 beds, while GTB Hospital, designed for 1,400 beds, is accommodating over 1,500 patients due to high demand. By consolidating these hospitals, the government aims to enhance coordination, resource utilization, and patient care efficiency.
By uniting these medical facilities into a single entity, the Delhi government plans to optimize patient care, reduce wait times, and enhance access to specialized treatments. This strategic move is anticipated to establish a modern healthcare hub capable of catering to the healthcare needs of millions of residents in Delhi and neighboring regions.
