Ahead of Bakrid celebrations, the Delhi government has increased surveillance and enforcement efforts in the national capital by deploying Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) under the Animal Husbandry Unit. These teams aim to ensure compliance with government guidelines concerning animal welfare, sacrifice, and public sanitation. Inspections were recently conducted in various markets and localities across different districts of Delhi.
The RRTs have been engaging in awareness campaigns among residents, livestock owners, animal traders, and transporters to educate them about the guidelines issued by the Delhi government for Bakrid-related activities. They have warned of strict legal action against any violations related to the transportation, sale, purchase, and management of animals. Citizens are urged to adhere fully to the government’s instructions during the festival period.
Delhi Development Minister Kapil Mishra mentioned that Rapid Response Teams have been established in all 13 districts of Delhi, overseen by district in-charges and deputy directors. These teams are responsible for monitoring regional activities, ensuring compliance with animal welfare norms, and taking immediate action in case of any breaches. The government’s advisory explicitly prohibits illegal sacrifices during Bakrid celebrations and the sale and purchase of animals in public places.
Authorities stress the importance of humane treatment of animals during transportation and handling. They emphasize that sacrifices should only occur at authorized locations and not in public areas. The government also prohibits the sale of meat at unlicensed places and the disposal of blood and remains in public drainage systems. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations to the nearest police station or PCR.
The Delhi government appeals to the public to cooperate with the Rapid Response Teams and local authorities to ensure peaceful celebrations during the festival period while strictly adhering to all advisories and regulations issued by the administration.
