Delhi-NCR experienced a sudden shift in weather with rain providing relief from the recent heat and humidity. The showers brought down temperatures, easing discomfort for residents. Visuals near the Indira Gandhi International Airport displayed rain spreading across various areas, accompanied by cooler winds and cloudy skies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more light rainfall and thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 60 kmph on June 11 and 12. These conditions are expected to lower the maximum temperature to 35-37 degrees Celsius by June 12. Earlier forecasts indicated a rise in temperature to 42 degrees Celsius by Tuesday, with Saturday touching 40 degrees Celsius in Delhi.
As the southwest monsoon progresses steadily across southern and western India, experts anticipate its arrival in Delhi between June 25 and June 30. The monsoon’s pace over the next few weeks will determine if Delhi witnesses an early or slightly delayed onset. While Kerala has already welcomed the rains, Delhi residents may have to wait a bit longer for the monsoon’s full arrival.
Despite the weather changes, Delhi’s air quality remains very poor, with various areas reporting high AQI levels. Locations such as Ashok Vihar, IIT Delhi, and Rohini recorded AQI values in the range of 120 to 174, indicating significant pollution levels.
