Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) may soon see relief from the hot and humid weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days. The weather forecast includes cloudy skies, gusty winds, and isolated showers for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad due to an active weather system affecting North India.
Temperatures in Delhi are expected to range from 26 to 37 degrees Celsius on June 23, with a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. The following days, June 24 and 25, may see maximum temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius. Partly cloudy skies are anticipated from June 22 to June 25, easing the intense heat conditions.
Meteorologists have mentioned a possible delay in the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Delhi this year. The monsoon’s progress across the country has been slower than usual, with regions like Mumbai still awaiting its onset. The recent rain and thunderstorms in Delhi are not linked to the southwest monsoon but are influenced by western disturbances affecting the northern regions.
The monsoon typically reaches Delhi around June 27, but this year, experts suggest a potential delay until early July. In 2025, the monsoon arrived in Delhi on June 29, two days later than the usual onset date. Concerns arise over a widening rainfall deficit in India, with only 51.5 mm of rainfall recorded between June 1 and June 19, marking a 41.1% deficit compared to the long-period average.
