Delhi Police have apprehended Rohit Solanki, the primary suspect in the shooting incident targeting the legal team of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The attack occurred near the Marghat Baba Temple in North Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate area, resulting in one person sustaining injuries and sparking concerns about the safety of lawyers handling cases involving high-profile gangsters.
Advocate Deepak Khatri, along with his team, was returning home from the temple on the night of February 24 when assailants associated with Rajasthan gangster Rohit Godhara opened fire on their car. CCTV footage and eyewitness testimonies suggest that three attackers on motorcycles fired six shots at the vehicle from behind, which was carrying five occupants, including Khatri. During the assault, a young man named Sandeep was struck by two bullets and is currently receiving medical treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, while Khatri narrowly escaped harm.
The perpetrators fled the scene on motorcycles following the attack. Subsequently, Rohit Godhara allegedly began threatening Khatri and his family through international phone calls, prompting the lawyer to seek immediate security for himself and his household, a request that authorities have yet to fulfill. Northern Delhi DCP Raja Banthia mentioned that the police are utilizing CCTV footage and information from informants to investigate the incident. On February 25, Rohit Godhara, accompanied by gang members Naveen Bakser, Rahul Fatehpur, and Sunny Yama, claimed responsibility for the assault in a social media post, citing retaliation against Khatri for purportedly sharing details with law enforcement.
The arrest of Rohit Solanki is anticipated to be a significant development in the case. Law enforcement is actively pursuing the remaining suspects and probing potential connections among various gangs operating in Delhi and Rajasthan. Legal experts have voiced concerns about the escalating threats faced by lawyers handling cases involving organized crime figures, underscoring the pressing necessity for bolstered security measures for legal professionals.
