The Delhi Police’s Dwarka District apprehended three individuals linked to the theft of a significant number of smartphones en route to an e-commerce facility in Gurugram, Haryana. The police recovered 604 new mobile phones valued at around Rs 1.5 crore during the investigation, marking a crucial development. An e-FIR was lodged under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint by the warehouse manager, Ravi, regarding the disappearance of 1,500 smartphones from a consignment of 4,500.
A specialized team, led by Inspector Bijender Chhillar and supervised by ACP Kishore Kumar Rewala, was formed to crack the case. Through meticulous examination of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the police identified a pickup vehicle used in the transportation of the stolen phones. Further inquiries led to the recovery of the pickup vehicle and some of the stolen phones by the Knowledge Park Police Station in Uttar Pradesh. The arrested individuals, Pankaj alias Dhirender, Anand alias Rudresh, and Mohit alias Pundir, were formally taken into custody and interrogated.
Acting on information obtained during interrogation, a raid in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district resulted in the discovery of 604 brand-new Vivo smartphones hidden in a garden. Investigations unveiled the criminal history of the accused, linking them to similar cases of theft involving mobile phone consignments across various states. The arrested individuals, habitual offenders targeting high-value electronic shipments during transit, are known for removing valuable items from transport vehicles and disposing of them through associates.
The interrogation of the arrested individuals has provided crucial leads on other members of the syndicate, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the remaining stolen phones as the investigation continues.
