Delhi Police have uncovered a sophisticated racket involved in tampering with expiry dates and repackaging expired international branded food products for sale. Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with this illegal operation. The seized food items are valued at over Rs. 20 lakh, posing a significant risk to public health due to the sale of expired goods.
The police operation, led by Inspector Anil Malik and supervised by ACP Anil Sharma and DCP Dr. Hemant Tiwari, targeted the criminal network responsible for distributing these expired products. The items, including packed food, beverages, and consumables, were intended for sale both locally and through e-commerce platforms in India and internationally.
Authorities conducted a joint raid at M/s Westened Corporation Pvt. Ltd. in New Delhi, where they discovered altered products of renowned brands like Thums Up, Fanta, Bournvita, and Maggi noodles. The perpetrators, including the company owner Darshan Singh Sachdeva, manipulated expiry dates using chemical thinners and specialized printing machines to deceive consumers.
The accused individuals procured near-expiry international food products at low prices, altered their manufacturing and expiry dates, and repackaged them with fake labels and information. These adulterated products were then distributed widely, generating illicit profits while endangering public health. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the law at PS Okhla Industrial Area.
