Delhi Police engaged in a late-night encounter with an accused linked to the brutal murder of a mother and her young son in the Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi. The accused, identified as Saurabh, sustained a leg injury from a bullet during the exchange of gunfire and was subsequently apprehended by the police. The encounter, led by Vishnu Tiwari, head of the Narcotics Squad in the South-East District, occurred when the accused fired at the police team, prompting them to return fire, injuring him.
The shooting incident occurred late on Thursday night at a location where the accused had reportedly taken refuge following the crime. After the encounter, the injured accused was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment under police custody. This arrest is connected to a distressing double murder case in Delhi’s Govindpuri area, where a woman and her teenage son were allegedly stabbed to death in their home during the early hours of Thursday.
The victims, identified as Sharda, 40, and her 14-year-old son, Khushal, were discovered dead inside their home’s kitchen in a pool of blood. The incident took place around 12:30 A.M. on Thursday, with initial investigations indicating that the accused fled after looting cash and valuables worth several lakhs from the house. Police sources mentioned that approximately Rs 10–12 lakh in cash, as well as gold and silver ornaments, were reportedly stolen following the murders.
Upon the husband’s return from the market, where he works as a vegetable trader, he found his wife and son’s lifeless bodies in the house and promptly alerted the authorities. Senior officers from the South-East District swiftly responded to the crime scene, initiating a thorough investigation. Multiple police teams were deployed to locate the accused, and surveillance footage from nearby areas was scrutinized to track his movements.
The bodies of the victims were later transferred to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for postmortem examination. The family, originally from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in the Govindpuri area for approximately 15 years. The husband operates a vegetable shop in a weekly market in the vicinity. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the case is ongoing, with efforts focused on determining the precise motive behind the murders and robbery.
