Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood announced that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will inaugurate “Khelo Delhi – Delhi Khel Mahakumbh” to enhance the sports culture in the capital. The initiative aims to provide a platform for athletes and promote sports across various disciplines.
Minister Sood recently hosted a dialogue on the upcoming sports event, with the participation of media representatives, sports influencers, Arjuna Awardees, fitness coaches, and sports personalities. He emphasized the abundance of talent in Delhi and the need for the right opportunities for athletes to showcase their skills.
The Delhi government plans to organize competitions in seven major sports disciplines during the initial phase of the Mahakumbh, including football, basketball, volleyball, and kabaddi. The events will be held at 17 major stadiums in Delhi, with the formal inauguration scheduled at Chhatrasal Stadium led by Chief Minister Gupta.
More than 16,000 athletes have already registered for the sports festival, with a target of over 30,000 participants this year. Minister Sood highlighted the importance of women’s participation in sports, focusing on their safety and involvement. The initiative aims to identify and support emerging talent, with international cricketer Shikhar Dhawan appointed as the Brand Ambassador for the event.
