Dera Sacha Sauda leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim, currently serving a 20-year sentence for raping two female followers in Sunaria Jail, Rohtak, Haryana, has been given a 30-day parole, marking his 16th temporary release since his 2017 conviction. Earlier this year, he had two 40-day paroles and a 21-day furlough, with another 30-day parole in January 2025.
Amid tight security, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was released this morning and will spend the parole period at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa, Haryana. His lawyer, Jitender Khurana, mentioned that physical gatherings with followers are prohibited, but he can communicate with them virtually during this time.
The Dera Sacha Sauda, based in Sirsa, holds significant influence in regions across Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and other states. Notably, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently acquitted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2002 murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. This decision came after a special CBI court had sentenced him to life imprisonment seven years ago.
