Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has called on the state government to address the challenges faced by farmers by streamlining agricultural procedures. Singh emphasized the need for an “Ease of Doing farming” approach to alleviate administrative complexities that contribute to agrarian distress.
Singh highlighted that farmers encounter delays and unnecessary procedures within the current system, adding to their existing natural and market-related uncertainties. He drew a parallel with the successful ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiative for industries, underscoring the importance of updating farming processes to ensure policy benefits reach farmers effectively.
Pointing out obstacles such as delays in accessing seeds, faulty irrigation transformers, and challenges in crop sales and credit access, Singh stressed that these hurdles increase costs, disrupt operations, and create uncertainty for farmers. He also criticized the complexity and time-consuming nature of the crop insurance claim process.
Advocating for an ‘Ease of Doing Farming’ system to enhance transparency and efficiency in agricultural governance, Singh proposed a comprehensive review of agriculture-related departments. He recommended greater involvement of farmer representatives and experts in policymaking to simplify procedures, ensure timely service delivery, and leverage technology for reduced bureaucracy.
Singh urged prompt implementation of the proposed framework, emphasizing that easing procedural burdens is crucial for enhancing farmers’ income, confidence, and the sustainability of agriculture in Madhya Pradesh.
