Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh honored iconic figures in Punjabi music for paving the way for artists like himself. Before his performance at Madison Square Garden, he acknowledged the influence of Amar Singh Chamkila, Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, and Gurdas Maan, among others.
Dosanjh emphasized that the energy he exuded was not solely his own but a reflection of the hard work put in by legends like Michael Jackson, Chamkila, and others in the Punjabi music industry. He expressed gratitude for their contributions, stating that without their efforts, current artists would not have achieved success.
During his performance, Dosanjh highlighted the presence of all Punjabi artists with him, singing the track “Pehle Lalkare” from his movie “Amar Singh Chamkila.” He mentioned the names of renowned artists like Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, Kuldeep Manak, Mohammad Sadiq, and Chamkila, emphasizing their impact on Punjabi music.
In his upcoming project, “Main Vaapas Aaunga,” Diljit Dosanjh will be seen in a period romantic drama alongside Sharvari, Naseeruddin Shah, and Vedang Raina. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition of India, explores themes of love, separation, migration, and memory. Directed by Imtiaz Ali and featuring A. R. Rahman’s music, the movie is scheduled to release on June 12, 2026.
