Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), has raised concerns about the humanitarian crisis faced by Afghan refugees in Pakistan. The organization highlighted that the expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan is leading to a serious situation, particularly during the winter season, putting lives at risk. Many of the expelled refugees are being accommodated in temporary camps lacking proper shelter, with limited access to healthcare, clean water, and food, according to a report by MSF.

The report emphasized that forced deportations are affecting various groups, including undocumented migrants, Afghan citizenship card holders, and temporary registration card holders, creating a dangerous scenario as winter intensifies in the region. Xu Weibing, the head of MSF’s mission in Pakistan, expressed concerns about Afghan families facing the fear of deportation and the challenges of returning to Afghanistan. The organization continues to call on the international community to provide humanitarian and protective assistance to those in need.

MSF highlighted the critical need for adequate shelter, medical care, and food during the winter season to prevent the loss of lives among Afghan refugees. The situation is particularly dire for vulnerable individuals who lack access to essential resources. Pakistan’s deportation of Afghan refugees, especially during the harsh winter months, has drawn criticism for the inadequate support systems in place, leaving many at risk.

Afghan refugees, including those who have recently returned to Afghanistan and are now residing in designated camps, have appealed to the Taliban regime for shelter, employment opportunities, and necessary supplies as winter approaches. The refugees have expressed concerns about falling ill in the cold weather and have urged for assistance. Analysts have also stressed the importance of continued support from the government and aid organizations for Afghan refugees who have returned to their homeland.

The plea from Afghan returnees and analysts comes amid ongoing forced deportations of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries. The Taliban has assured assistance to Afghan refugees and called on host nations to halt forced deportations, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid and protection for those affected.
