The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated 2 kg of cocaine in Surat and apprehended a person for engaging in its illegal trafficking under the NDPS Act, 1985. Additionally, the DRI conducted operations in various locations like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Cochin, and Ahmedabad, seizing around 26 kg of cocaine in total over the past month.
During these operations, 22 individuals, including 14 foreign nationals, were taken into custody. The contraband was smuggled through different methods such as ingestion, concealment in various items, and baggage, among others. The DRI’s efforts have been focused on targeting organized syndicates involved in drug trafficking, aligning with the vision of a Drug-free India.
June 26 marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking, observed globally to raise awareness about substance abuse and combat illegal drug trade. Previously, the DRI dismantled a gold smuggling syndicate at the Mumbai airport, uncovering a gold melting facility used for processing smuggled gold. Nine individuals across the smuggling chain, including airport staff and intermediaries, were arrested in connection with the case.
