The Election Commission of India has called the two sons of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a four-time Trinamool Congress MP, for a hearing regarding claims and objections to the draft voters’ list. Ghosh expressed concerns about the situation in West Bengal, labeling it as a farce in the guise of a revision exercise. Her sons, along with her mother and younger sister, were not listed in the draft voters’ list and were summoned for the hearing.
Ghosh highlighted that her sons, who are government employees, were summoned despite their family’s political background. She criticized the process, suggesting it was a means to harass individuals. The incident is part of a series where relatives of Trinamool Congress members have faced similar issues with the Election Commission regarding the voters’ list.
In a separate case, the Election Commission also summoned the family members of Nabin Chandra Bag, a Trinamool Congress legislator, for a hearing on claims and objections. Bag, a three-time legislator, raised concerns over the notices served to his mother, brother, and sister-in-law, despite their names being on the 2002 voters’ list. Bag transitioned from CPI(M) to Trinamool Congress before the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections and has been elected twice as a ruling party candidate since then.
