The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Odisha will kick off on Saturday, as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) start a door-to-door verification process from May 30. The BLOs will distribute enumeration forms, help residents fill them out, and collect the completed forms by June 28.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R.S. Gopalan announced that during the verification period, BLOs will visit homes in the mornings to provide enumeration forms to voters. These forms will include personal details, family information, and data from the 2002 electoral roll. BLOs will verify the information and rectify any minor discrepancies.
To ensure the accuracy of the electoral roll, the CEO instructed BLOs to be vigilant in including all eligible voters and excluding any ineligible individuals. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 5, with a period for filing claims and objections set from July 5 to August 4.
The disposal of claims and objections, along with the notice period, will run from July 5 to September 2. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on September 6, 2026. Additionally, BLOs will be available at polling booths daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for voters to submit forms directly.
A total of 45,255 BLOs have been deployed across Odisha for the smooth conduct of the SIR. Furthermore, 33,000 Booth Level Agents are undergoing training, with help desks activated to assist voters. Residents can opt for a digital route by downloading the form from the Election Commission’s website and submitting it online.
Addressing concerns about discrepancies, CEO Gopalan explained that most errors in voter rolls are minor and can be resolved through a simple inquiry. For serious errors, voters may need to provide supporting evidence, but absence of evidence does not disqualify a voter. Family members are authorized to collect enumeration forms on behalf of absent voters.
