More than 40 passengers had a narrow escape when an electric bus they were traveling in caught fire in Telangana’s Karimnagar district. The incident took place near Alugunur in Timmapur mandal while the bus, owned by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), was en route to Hyderabad from Karimnagar.
Upon reaching Alugunur, smoke started coming out of the bus engine. The driver promptly halted the bus and informed the passengers, who quickly disembarked. The vehicle was soon engulfed in flames, but fortunately, a fire engine arrived in time to extinguish the fire, although the bus was completely destroyed.
The bus was carrying a total of 41 passengers, and authorities from TGSRTC were relieved that there were no casualties. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with the police initiating an investigation into the matter.
TGSRTC has faced similar incidents recently, losing a few electric buses to fires. In a previous incident on March 29, an electric bus was destroyed by fire at a bus depot in Hanumakonda due to a short circuit while it was being washed.
In another incident on the same day, a container vehicle overturned in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, causing a significant traffic jam on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway. The truck, carrying solar energy equipment en route to Chennai, overturned at Borralagudem Stage in Choutuppal mandal, blocking the highway and halting traffic between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
Senior police officials quickly responded, deploying cranes to clear the road. Traffic diversions were put in place to ease congestion and aid motorists stranded by the incident.
