Energy security featured prominently in discussions held by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his recent trip to Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, as per the Ministry of External Affairs. The Minister engaged in talks covering various areas of interest such as trade, energy, and investment with officials from these nations.
During the visit, the issue of alternative energy supply routes was raised, with Jaishankar engaging in extensive discussions with the leadership of the four Gulf countries. The talks encompassed a range of topics including the evolving situation in West Asia and the importance of energy security in the region.
Tensions in West Asia heightened following recent military actions between the US and Iran, impacting global energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy passage connecting the Persian Gulf with international markets, including India, faced disruptions due to these developments.
Jaishankar’s official visit to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman from July 5-10 focused on strengthening ties and addressing mutual concerns. Meetings with key officials in these countries aimed at enhancing strategic partnerships and discussing regional and global issues of common interest.
