The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed an FIR following an attack on its officials during raids in Kerala related to the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL)-Exalogic monthly pay off case. The FIR, registered by the Kerala Police at the Museum Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram, was based on a complaint from an ED Assistant Director.
Six CPI-M workers have been arrested, and another activist is in police custody in connection with the incident. The FIR was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
During the violence outside former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence, officials of the ED, CRPF personnel, and Kerala Police officers were attacked by a mob, as per the FIR. Nearly 300 individuals were part of the violent mob, and the attackers, who used sticks, stones, and bricks, are expected to be identified.
The mob assaulted officials and damaged vehicles belonging to the ED team after searches at Vijayan’s residence. Three ED vehicles were damaged, and injuries were reported among the agency’s officials and security personnel. An ED officer suffered hand injuries, while a driver was seriously injured by a brick.
The attack occurred as the ED officials left the residence at Bakery Junction after conducting searches related to alleged illegal financial transactions between CMRL and Exalogic Solutions, an IT company owned by Veena Vijayan, Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter. Following the incident, the ED team filed a detailed complaint at the Thampanoor police station, leading to the FIR registration by the Museum Police for a thorough investigation and identification of the perpetrators.
