The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has completed maintenance on its Unified Member Portal and transferred Universal Account Number services to the UMANG app. Subscribers can no longer activate or generate a new UAN through the EPFO website but can do so via the UMANG app, requiring Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).
To activate a UAN on UMANG, users need to download the app, access EPFO services, and choose “UAN Activation” under “UAN Services Through Face Authentication.” Following face authentication, users should proceed with the provided instructions. For new UAN creation, employees must navigate to EPFO services on UMANG, select “UAN Allotment and Activation,” complete Aadhaar face authentication, and follow on-screen prompts.
Employees with an EPF account lacking a UAN must verify their registered mobile number, provide necessary member details, and complete the verification process to receive a UAN, which will be linked to their existing EPF account. The updated system also facilitates UAN retrieval for users who have forgotten their UAN.
EPFO has assured that the suspension of UAN activation on the Member Portal does not impact death claim settlements, as eligible nominees and legal heirs can still file claims through the regular process. Additionally, the new EPF Scheme, 2026, mandates that members maintain a minimum balance of 25% of their eligible member balance in their EPF account before making partial withdrawals, with the calculation for minimum withdrawal amount excluding this set-aside balance.
