Film producer and former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani has passed away at the age of 76. Reports indicate that Nihalani had been unwell for some time, battling liver-related health issues. His last rites are scheduled to take place at a crematorium in Santa Cruz, Mumbai.
IMPPA President Abhay Sinha confirmed the news of Nihalani’s passing. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, in an Instagram post, expressed sorrow over the demise of Nihalani, highlighting his contributions to the film industry. Nihalani was known for producing successful Bollywood films like “Aankhen,” “Andaz,” “Talaash,” “Rangeela Raja,” and “Julie 2.”
Pahlaj Nihalani, a prominent figure in Hindi cinema, began his career as a film producer in the early 1980s. He ventured into direction briefly, directing films like “Avatar” in 2012. Nihalani also served as the chairperson of the CBFC from 2015 to 2017, a period marked by discussions on film censorship and certification.
