The Election Commission of India has confirmed that the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu will be officially released on February 17, as planned. This announcement marks the conclusion of a thorough revision process aimed at ensuring the accuracy and transparency of voter records in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections.
During the special intensive revision process, authorities conducted a detailed verification drive of the voters’ list. Deceased voters, individuals who relocated, and those lacking necessary documentation were identified and eliminated to uphold the database’s integrity.
After this scrutiny, the draft electoral roll was issued on December 19 last year, inviting public feedback and new applications. Citizens were given until Monday to request additions, corrections, or modifications to their entries.
Approximately 34.75 lakh applications were received statewide, encompassing new registrations, address changes, and personal detail corrections. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been actively verifying these applications on the ground.
Door-to-door checks, document inspections, and field visits were conducted to ensure the inclusion of only eligible voters. Nearly 90% of the applications have already been reviewed, with the remaining verifications expected to be finalized by Tuesday.
Upon completion of the process, the updated and final electoral roll will be made public on February 17. The list will be accessible at District Collector offices, Corporation offices, polling stations, and the official Election Commission website.
Additionally, steps have been taken to assign voter identification numbers to newly registered voters. The printing of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) is in progress, and starting February 17, these voter ID cards will be sent directly to applicants’ homes via express post for prompt delivery and enhanced convenience.
Officials underscored that this comprehensive revision exercise underscores the Commission’s dedication to conducting impartial and inclusive elections by maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voter database throughout Tamil Nadu.
