Local train services in the South Section of the Sealdah division of East Railways faced disruption due to a major fire at Bagha Jatin Railways station on Monday morning. The fire, which started at a garments shop on platform number two, quickly engulfed the entire shop and spread to adjacent temporary shops due to the inflammable nature of the items. Despite the panic among passengers, there were no casualties reported.
Thousands of domestic aides and contractual workers traveling to Kolkata were affected by the fire, which led to a temporary suspension of train services on the down line of the South Section of Sealdah Division. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control after an hour of intense efforts, preventing any casualties but causing extensive damage to the shop’s contents. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
As a safety measure, train services were halted for about an hour, impacting both down and up lines. However, services gradually resumed after the situation was brought under control, allowing normalcy to return to the affected area.
