Five pilgrims participating in the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra sustained injuries in a road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district. The accident, which involved an Ertiga vehicle, occurred on the Udhampur-Chenani stretch of National Highway-44 near Toldi Nallah early in the morning. Among the injured, one lady is in critical condition.
Officials reported that the vehicle, with registration No. MP13ZY-2836, met with the accident around 6:10 A.M. All the injured individuals are Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh. Following the incident, CRPF 137 Battalion, Gorkha 4/3, Civil Defence, Traffic Police, and Jammu & Kashmir Police swiftly responded by launching a rescue operation. The injured were promptly taken to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College, Udhampur for medical treatment.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed the incident and mentioned that he had been in touch with DC Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, upon receiving the accident report. Dr. Singh highlighted that out of the five injured individuals, one woman sustained critical injuries and was immediately referred to Government Medical College Jammu for advanced care. He assured that all necessary assistance was being provided and that his office was continuously monitoring the situation.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, who represents the Kathua-Udhampur constituency in J&K, also shared that since the Yatra commenced on July 3, more than 1.60 lakh Yatris have participated in the pilgrimage. On the day of the accident, over 8,000 pilgrims departed for the Valley from Jammu in two escorted convoys headed for Nunwan and Baltal base camps. The SANJY-2026 pilgrimage, spanning 57 days, is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
