The police faced a setback in the narcotics case involving actor Shine Tom Chacko as a forensic report did not establish his drug consumption. This finding weakens the prosecution’s claims in a case that sparked public debate in Kerala. The report contradicted earlier police statements that Chacko and a friend had used drugs in a hotel room in Kochi.
The case gained attention due to visuals of Chacko allegedly fleeing the hotel during a surprise inspection by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force. The incident occurred during the police’s Operation D-Hunt in April, leading to widespread media coverage and discussions on drug abuse in the film industry.
Acting on a tip-off, the police reached a hotel in Ernakulam North suspecting drug use in Chacko’s room. They claimed Chacko escaped through a window upon the team’s arrival. Following this, he was questioned by the police for several hours.
The latest forensic report raises doubts about the drug consumption allegation, impacting the case narrative. Chacko was previously linked to a cannabis case but was found to have no direct involvement. He clarified financial transactions with a woman arrested in that case and admitted to past methamphetamine use.
Chacko voluntarily sought treatment at a de-addiction center and was shifted under the Excise Department’s program. He denied any drug-related dealings with the woman and reiterated this during questioning. With the forensic report not supporting the police’s claim, the case is likely to face legal scrutiny amid concerns over investigative lapses.
