A Special court in Hyderabad has acquitted former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T. Raja Singh in a case dating back to 2022 concerning alleged derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. Raja Singh, who was arrested and detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act for over two months, was cleared by the Special Court for MPs/MLAs. The charges against him, including Sections 153A(a)(b), 295A, 504, 505(2), and 506 of the IPC, were not proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Raja Singh’s lawyer, K. Karuna Sagar, stated that the court found the prosecution’s evidence lacking and acquitted the MLA. Reacting to the judgment, Raja Singh, who no longer belongs to the BJP and represents the Goshamahal constituency, hailed it as a ‘victory of truth.’ He expressed his belief in the judiciary and vowed to continue fighting legal battles within the framework of the law and the Constitution.
Denying any intention to offend religious sentiments, Raja Singh criticized the invocation of the PD Act by the then Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government allegedly under pressure from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Despite facing multiple cases under the current Congress-led Telangana government, Raja Singh remains optimistic about being acquitted in all instances. He thanked his supporters, affirmed his respect for the judiciary, and pledged to serve the people while upholding constitutional values.
