Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, S.P. Vaid, criticized the police and judiciary, alleging they see themselves as rulers rather than serving the people. He expressed concern over the handling of the Twisha Sharma case, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to satisfy the affected family.
Vaid highlighted that the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe into the matter, with preparations underway for the transfer. He stressed that the controversy surrounding the case could have been avoided if the investigation had followed standard operating procedures (SOP).
The former DGP lamented the delay in justice for Twisha Sharma’s family, noting the father’s plea for a second post-mortem after her body remained in the mortuary for an extended period. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered a second autopsy on Twisha’s remains to be conducted by AIIMS Delhi doctors.
Vaid criticized the handling of the case as a prestige issue, urging a focus on uncovering the truth behind whether Twisha’s death was a suicide or murder. He pointed out discrepancies in the handling of evidence, particularly regarding the victim’s family’s actions and the alleged involvement of her mother-in-law, a retired judge.
The former DGP called for a change in attitude within the police and administration, emphasizing the need for a more people-centric approach. He described Twisha’s death as a national loss and appealed for intervention at the highest levels of government and the judiciary.
