The Gautam Buddha Nagar administration has issued a weather advisory for Noida residents, warning them to stay alert due to expected drastic weather changes and gusty winds from May 28 to May 31 as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Residents are urged to be cautious as the Delhi-NCR region prepares for potential strong weather fluctuations, including high-speed winds, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes. The IMD forecast for the region during this period predicts relief from the heat but also warns of severe dust storms and thunderstorms.
District Disaster Specialist, Omkar Chaturvedi, from the Gautam Buddha Nagar administration, highlighted that the weather impact is anticipated to be most intense on May 29 according to the MeT department’s predictions, placing Gautam Buddha Nagar in the ‘Orange Zone.’ Strong winds blowing at speeds of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour, with gusts possibly reaching up to 100 kmph, are expected in several areas. It is crucial for everyone to remain vigilant during adverse weather conditions to prevent any potential loss of life, livestock, or property damage.
Residents are advised by the district administration to install the ‘Damini App’ and ‘Sachet App’ on their mobile phones to receive timely weather alerts and warnings. These apps provide advance notifications about storms, strong winds, lightning strikes, and adverse weather conditions. The advisory also cautions against standing near trees, mobile towers, or tall buildings during bad weather. People are urged not to allow children to play in open fields and to avoid contact with electrical appliances, iron windows, doors, and hand pumps during adverse weather conditions.
During lightning strikes, individuals are advised to stay away from ponds, rivers, and water-related activities like swimming. Farmers working in fields are instructed to promptly relocate to safe and dry areas in case of adverse weather conditions.
