Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Goa, the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer for the 26-Dabolim Assembly constituency clarified procedural deficiencies in the enumeration form submitted for Congress Lok Sabha MP Captain Viriato Hipolito Mendonca Fernandes. The form lacked key details like Assembly Constituency number, Part number, and serial number, causing it to be flagged as “unmapped” in the electoral system.
The Booth Level Officer collected the form during the revision exercise but missing information prevented automatic linking with the existing electoral roll record. Consequently, a hearing notice was automatically generated due to the form being categorized as “unmapped.” The electoral office emphasized that the action was procedural and not targeted at any individual.
MP Viriato Fernandes had earlier raised concerns after receiving a notice from the Election Commission of India regarding his identity verification to retain his name on the electoral rolls. The electoral office clarified that the “unmapped” status was due to incomplete form information and the process followed was automated and compliant with guidelines.
The electoral office highlighted the importance of accurate data entry during revision exercises, noting that minor omissions can trigger automated procedural actions. The clarification aims to dispel speculation surrounding the notice served to the MP and reaffirm the unbiased conduct of the revision exercise.
