Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s mother, Catherine Scorsese, once shared how she was paid $28 by her son for a role in the movie ‘Mean Streets’. In a rediscovered video, she expressed her joy in watching her son direct films, despite lacking formal acting training. She mentioned instances where she was cut from some of his movies, including ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Raging Bull’, but highlighted her improvised scene with Robert De Niro in ‘The King of Comedy’.
She reminisced about her son’s encouragement for her to act, even though she believed she wasn’t an actress. Martin Scorsese, in response, insisted that she either participate in the films or pay for her role. Recalling her role in ‘Mean Streets’, she humorously mentioned receiving $28 for her performance, unable to refuse the opportunity.
