In a move to support farmers and shield them from market price fluctuations, the government has sanctioned significant procurement of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. This procurement falls under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and is aimed at ensuring fair prices for farmers, as stated by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Uttar Pradesh stands to benefit the most from this initiative, with approvals for procuring 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong, 97,970 MT of urad, and 41,718 MT of groundnut for the ‘Summer 2026’ season. The total value of these MSP approvals surpasses Rs 1,490 crore, providing a substantial boost to pulse and oilseed cultivators in the state.
Additionally, Gujarat will witness the procurement of 18,250 MT of moong during the Summer 2026 season, with a total MSP value exceeding Rs 160 crore. This decision is expected to empower moong farmers in the state by ensuring better market prices for their produce.
In Tamil Nadu, the moong procurement limit for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025-26 has been raised from 885 MT to 990 MT, allowing for an additional procurement of 105 MT of moong. The approved procurement’s total MSP value amounts to Rs 8.68 crore, directly benefiting local farmers.
Furthermore, Haryana has received approval for procuring 2,115 MT of moong in the upcoming Summer 2026 season, with the total MSP value exceeding Rs 18 crore. This step is anticipated to provide crucial price support to farmers in the state, according to the official statement.
