The government announced that over 2,922 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated, with 30 individuals returning in the last 24 hours from various locations in the Gulf region. Efforts by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and maritime stakeholders, aim to ensure seafarer welfare and maintain maritime operations smoothly.
Port operations in India are functioning normally without any reported congestion, as confirmed by the recent update from the ministry. The Directorate General of Shipping Control Room has been actively managing a high volume of calls and emails, handling 8,335 calls and over 17,838 emails since its activation, with 67 calls and 144 emails received in the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in the Gulf and West Asia region, focusing on the safety, security, and welfare of the Indian community residing there. Regular updates and advisories are being issued, covering local government guidelines, flight and travel information, consular services, and welfare measures for the community.
The aviation situation is showing signs of improvement, with additional flights operating between the region and various destinations in India. Limited commercial flights are operating between the UAE and India, while flights from Saudi Arabia and Oman to India are also in operation. Iraq’s airspace is open for limited flights to regional destinations, facilitating onward travel to India.
The government has advised Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran and urged those already there to depart via land borders with the support of the Indian Embassy. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has successfully assisted in the movement of 2,490 Indian nationals out of Iran through land border routes.
