Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi expressed relief, gratitude, and pride as a new group of fishermen arrived in India after being stranded in Iran. Sanghavi commended the resilience of the fishermen and India’s commitment to its citizens. He specifically thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal for their support in the evacuation process.
Sanghavi mentioned that 74 fishermen from Gujarat were rescued from Iran and provided with transportation back home. The ongoing evacuation efforts led by the Indian government have brought back 312 more Indian fishermen from Iran through Armenia, with assistance from the Armenian government.
The evacuation operation aims to bring back Indian nationals, including fishermen, who were affected by the conflict in West Asia. So far, over 1,777 Indian nationals have been facilitated to return to India through coordinated efforts involving Iran, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
Officials highlighted the challenging conditions faced by the evacuees, including uncertainty and work disruptions, before their safe return to India. The diplomatic coordination by Indian authorities continues as more groups of evacuees are expected to return to different parts of the country in the coming days.
