The Gujarat government has sanctioned the creation of 28 additional Section Officer (Class II) posts in the State Secretariat, increasing the total strength from 606 to 634. This decision aims to enhance administrative efficiency and expedite the processing of government files. The move is part of an effort to address the increasing workload in the Secretariat and ensure prompt implementation of policy decisions.
The additional officers are expected to facilitate quicker processing of files by various departments, leading to faster completion of government services and public works. These new posts will be allocated across 26 government departments and 19 offices, including the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The restructuring also includes provisions for temporary posts and a deputation reserve for specific institutions like the Chief Minister’s Office, the Gujarat Vigilance Commission, and the Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board.
The decision to increase the cadre strength comes in response to the growing administrative responsibilities and the surge in the number of files managed by the Secretariat in recent years. By expanding the workforce, the government aims to streamline decision-making processes across departments and ensure timely completion of administrative tasks. This initiative follows a series of promotions within the Secretariat cadre earlier this year, where 86 Deputy Section Officers (Class III) were promoted to the position of Section Officer (Class II).
Officials have highlighted that the combination of newly-created posts and recent promotions will bolster the administrative capacity of the Secretariat. This reinforcement is crucial as the state undertakes a higher number of development projects, implements new government schemes, and shoulders expanding departmental duties. The government underscores that the augmented staffing is intended to accelerate file processing and enhance the overall efficiency of government administration.
