The Gujarat government has announced the construction of independent Gram Panchayat buildings-cum-talati residences in 2,666 villages across the state, costing Rs 663 crore. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel initiated the e-foundation laying from Bhadaran village in Anand district, emphasizing the state’s commitment to rural infrastructure development in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for village-level progress. The initiative aims to ensure that every Gram Panchayat in Gujarat has its own building, enhancing access to government services at the local level.

Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Gramotthan Yojana,’ 114 villages without municipalities but serving as taluka headquarters will receive urban-equivalent facilities in the first phase. These facilities include improved road infrastructure, water supply, sanitation systems, solar street lighting, e-Gram services, and community halls. The state government plans to expand the scheme to Gram Panchayats with populations exceeding 10,000 in the future to bridge the development gap between rural and urban areas.

Chief Minister Patel highlighted water conservation efforts under the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, promoting rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. Each MLA has been allocated a special grant of Rs 50 lakh for local recharge infrastructure development. Additionally, Patel advocated for cow-based natural farming to enhance soil health and ensure sustainable agriculture practices. The day also saw tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, emphasizing his vision of Gram Swaraj for self-reliant villages.

Panchayat and Housing Minister Rushikesh Patel expressed that the construction of 2,666 Gram Panchayat buildings in Gujarat will steer rural development in a new direction. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ramanbhai Solanki hailed the occasion as a significant stride towards delivering government services at the grassroots level. The event witnessed the presence of several ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior officials, and sarpanchs from various districts.
