Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat chose eco-friendly travel by cycling most of the way from Kurukshetra railway station to Gurukul after arriving by train from Gujarat. He emphasized reducing fuel usage and supporting indigenous products to boost the economy. The Governor’s decision to cut down on air travel and minimize his security convoy aligns with a broader fuel conservation initiative.
Around 200 cyclists, including Sports Authority of India (SAI) players, accompanied the Governor during his cycling rally through various parts of Kurukshetra. Addressing students and locals, Acharya Devvrat urged everyone to contribute to India’s development by purchasing domestic products, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a prosperous India. He stressed the importance of conserving fuel resources for the nation’s progress.
Acharya Devvrat, despite having Z+ security status, has halted the use of helicopters and air travel for official engagements in Gujarat until the fuel situation stabilizes. He directed officials to minimize the number of vehicles in his convoy as part of the fuel conservation efforts. The Governor encouraged students to promote the message of fuel conservation at the grassroots level to ensure India’s continuous advancement.
In response to Prime Minister Modi’s call for “economic self-defence,” various BJP-ruled states and senior leaders have taken steps to reduce convoy sizes, limit official travel, and promote public transport. The Governor has mandated Gujarat state universities to observe a “combustion engine-free” or “No Vehicle Day” weekly to encourage the use of bicycles, electric vehicles, and public transport over petrol and diesel vehicles. Acharya Devvrat’s Gram Kalyan program focuses on natural farming, de-addiction, cleanliness, tree plantation, and value-based education in villages, aiming to inspire sustainable practices.
