The 63-km Katosan Road-Becharaji-Ranuj broad gauge rail line in Gujarat has achieved a significant milestone towards launching passenger train services. Following a successful speed trial at 120 kmph and a three-day safety inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Western Circle), the line is now awaiting final approval for passenger operations.
The inspection, conducted from July 9 to 11, involved a thorough examination of the rail section by Commissioner E. Srinivas using a motor trolley. A speed trial at 120 kmph was carried out to determine the route’s safe operating speed. The inspection covered various critical aspects such as track quality, signaling systems, bridges, and safety parameters.
Railway officials, including Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash and other key personnel, participated in the inspection process. The Katosan Road-Becharaji-Ranuj project, developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 1,000 crore, is a joint initiative between Indian Railways and Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (G-RIDE).
The rail line, spanning 63 km and featuring 14 stations, nine major bridges, and various other infrastructure elements, is set to enhance connectivity in the region. Becharaji station, a significant stop along the route, serves as the entry point to the revered Shri Bahuchar Mata Temple in Mehsana district, attracting numerous devotees annually.
The new rail connectivity is poised to reduce reliance on road transport for local residents, industries, and pilgrims. It is expected to benefit communities in Mehsana and Patan districts by improving accessibility for commuters, students, traders, and industrial establishments. Once all formalities are completed, passenger train services will commence upon receiving final safety clearance.
