West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has instructed the state police to take immediate action to dismantle all unauthorized liquor and marijuana outlets across the state within the next two weeks. He expressed concern over the proliferation of such establishments during the previous administration, citing their negative impact on women’s safety.
Adhikari highlighted a recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, linking the crime to the influence of alcohol. He emphasized the need for public cooperation in reporting any illicit liquor vendors in their neighborhoods to the local authorities. The Chief Minister inaugurated a new police station in the area where the crime occurred and stressed the role of illegal liquor and drug outlets in contributing to crimes against women.
The Chief Minister directed the state’s Director General of Police to lead a special operation over the next two weeks to identify and dismantle illegal liquor and marijuana establishments. He underscored the importance of extending such crackdowns beyond border areas to rural regions, aiming to eliminate the social menace posed by these illicit businesses and safeguard the environment.
