At least two individuals lost their lives, and 11 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to heavy rains and thunderstorms. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed the fatalities in Mardan and the injuries in Battagram, Swat, and Mardan, as per The Express Tribune. The PDMA report indicated that four individuals were wounded in Battagram, one in Mardan, and six in Swat, with severe damage to houses and infrastructure across various districts.
According to the PDMA report, severe weather conditions led to the complete destruction of three houses in Shangla and one in Battagram, while 27 other houses suffered partial damage. The adverse weather conditions also caused harm to a school in Shangla. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts dust thunderstorms and rain in the upper regions of Pakistan until May 23.
In a previous incident in April, rain-related incidents in Peshawar, Mohmand, and Nowshera districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in three deaths and 14 injuries. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi reported a child’s death and two injuries in a roof collapse in Peshawar’s Mattani area. Additionally, three family members were injured in Mohmand tribal district, and five individuals were injured in Ekkaghund tehsil due to similar incidents.
Livestock losses and destruction of standing crops due to rain-related incidents have caused financial losses to the affected population, as highlighted in the report.
