V. Srinivasan, the husband of Rajya Sabha member and Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, passed away in the early hours of Friday. Srinivasan collapsed at his residence in Payyoli in Kerala’s Kozhikode district and was declared brought dead by doctors at a nearby private hospital. The sudden demise has deeply impacted the sporting and political communities nationwide.
Usha, who was in New Delhi during the incident for the Parliament session, is on her way back to her hometown. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to Usha over the phone on the loss of her husband. Modi expressed sympathies to the grieving family and prayed for Usha’s strength during this difficult time.
Srinivasan, a former kabaddi player, had a strong connection with sports from a young age. Despite his background in sports and his career with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), he maintained a low public profile. Described as disciplined and committed, Srinivasan was a significant support to Usha throughout her athletic and public life journey.
The couple, survived by their son Dr. Ujjwal Vighnesh, received condolences from various political figures, athletes, and sports administrators nationwide. Many sporting bodies acknowledged Srinivasan’s quiet yet crucial role in supporting one of India’s most renowned athletes.
