Hyderabad-based space startup Skyroot Aerospace is poised to make history on Saturday by launching its inaugural orbital vehicle, Vikram-1, a significant achievement for India’s burgeoning private space industry.
The mission, dubbed Mission Aagaman, is set to take off at 11:30 A.M. from the First Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, marking India’s foray into the global private orbital launch market.
Vikram-1, entirely developed by an Indian private company, signifies a crucial advancement in India’s commercial space capabilities, showcasing the country’s potential in the private space sector.
Skyroot Aerospace has obtained all required airspace and maritime clearances for the launch, with authorities designating restricted zones along the rocket’s trajectory to ensure a smooth mission.
Mission Aagaman will be Skyroot’s second space endeavor following the successful launch of the Vikram-S suborbital rocket in November 2022, demonstrating the company’s progress in space technology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handwritten postcard with the message “Vande Mataram” will be part of the payloads on Vikram-1, adding a symbolic touch to the mission and underscoring the collective support for India’s private space initiatives.
The mission will also carry handwritten notes from various stakeholders, symbolizing the collaborative spirit driving India’s advancements in space exploration and innovation.
The successful launch of Vikram-1 is anticipated to elevate India’s standing in the global space sector, showcasing the capabilities of its private space enterprises and unlocking new opportunities in the commercial satellite launch market.
