The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu for the next two days, affecting 22 districts with intense showers, thunderstorms, and lightning. The sudden weather change is linked to atmospheric circulation over the Kumari Sea region. Districts like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Sivaganga, and others are expected to receive heavy rain and gusty winds. Chennai may experience moderate rainfall in some areas, with temperatures staying below 38 degrees Celsius.
The unexpected summer showers have brought relief from the intense heat in various parts of the state. Coimbatore witnessed heavy rain in multiple areas, leading to waterlogging and a drop in temperatures. Erode, previously experiencing temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, also saw sudden showers, providing relief to residents. Unfortunately, heavy rainfall led to a tragic incident in Modakurichi near Erode, where a woman lost her life due to a collapsed compound wall.
In the Nilgiris district, continuous showers created chilly weather conditions in places like Udhagamandalam and Devala. Kodaikanal also experienced rain in different areas, while heavy rainfall affected parts of Ariyalur, Salem, Tiruvarur, and Karur districts. In Karur, villages were flooded, submerging paddy fields ready for harvest. Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied intermittent rain in Kanniyakumari and surrounding regions, including Nagercoil.
