The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extensive rainfall in Maharashtra, with weather alerts issued for 31 districts. Twenty-five districts are under a yellow alert, while six face an orange alert, signaling the possibility of continuous rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported 113 incidents of tree and branch falls in Mumbai within the last 24 hours.
The BMC documented 40 incidents in the city area, 23 in the eastern suburbs, and 50 in the western suburbs due to heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The southwest monsoon has now enveloped the remaining parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, leading to widespread rainfall in the state. Mumbai and neighboring Thane witnessed heavy showers as monsoon activity intensified over the past two days.
Districts under the yellow alert encompass Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, and others. Pune, Yavatmal, Latur, and other districts are under an orange alert due to the likelihood of heavier rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The monsoon has become active across most regions of Maharashtra, bringing relief from the summer heat.
Meteorologists attribute the surge in rainfall to the interaction of three atmospheric systems, enhancing monsoon activity over Mumbai and surrounding areas. The IMD anticipates a gradual decrease in temperatures across Maharashtra, with maximum temperatures expected to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next two days. Monsoon conditions are active in the state, with residents advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
