The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for very heavy rainfall in Kanyakumari district and heavy rain in various parts of Tamil Nadu as the southwest monsoon is set to arrive in neighboring Kerala. Kanyakumari is expected to receive intense rainfall over the next five days due to the strengthening monsoon conditions. Additionally, heavy rain is forecasted for Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts, as well as hilly areas like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and others.
The recent forecast follows widespread rainfall in several Tamil Nadu districts over the past two days, providing relief from the intense summer heat. In Chengalpattu district, regions like Madurantakam witnessed heavy showers for the second consecutive day, leading to a significant drop in temperatures. Ranipet district also experienced widespread rainfall, bringing relief to residents from the hot and humid weather conditions.
In Tirupattur district, high daytime temperatures were followed by heavy rain in Vaniyambadi and nearby areas in the evening, providing respite from the heat. Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district recorded over an hour of rainfall accompanied by dense mist, affecting visibility and leading to a drop in temperature. The advancing southwest monsoon is expected to increase rainfall activity in southern and western Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days.
The IMD has further predicted moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Chennai and its suburbs within the next 24 hours, offering relief from the prevailing hot weather conditions.
